MAGIC OF ROTARY

2024 - 2025

SOAPRISE 2.0

Originally launched as a sustainable livelihood initiative for the Mamanwa Tribe in Basey, Samar, the Rotaract Club of Tacloban proudly continues its advocacy through the second phase of its flagship project — SOAPRise.

In this phase, a portion of the handcrafted soap products made by the Mamanwa community was donated to select schools in Tacloban City, namely Kapangian Central School, Tacloban City Central School, and Sagkahan National High School.

To complement the soap donation, proper handwashing tarpaulins were installed in the designated handwashing areas of each school. In addition, proper handwashing techniques were demonstrated and taught to students and school personnel, reinforcing the importance of hygiene in maintaining health and preventing disease.

This initiative not only sustains the livelihood of an indigenous community but also strengthens the club’s commitment to promoting water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) practices—empowering local communities while fostering safe and healthy learning environments.

Type Kita

In celebration of Araw ng Kagitingan, the Rotaract Club of Tacloban successfully conducted TYPE KITA, our flagship blood donation initiative, at Metro Mall Tacloban. Guided by the principles of Republic Act No. 7719 (National Blood Services Act), the project aims to promote voluntary blood donation and help ensure a safe and sufficient blood supply for patients in need.

Every blood donor became a silent hero, giving hope and a second chance at life to those who depend on life-saving transfusions. Together with our valued partners—Eastern Visayas Medical Center Blood Bank, Tacloban City Hospital, and Metro Tacloban—we continue to prove that every drop truly counts.

Rotaract Deworming Campaign

Healthy children learn better. Through the Rotaract Deworming Campaign, the Rotaract Club of Tacloban, together with the Rotary Club of Tacloban, DOH Eastern Visayas, DepEd Region VIII, and DILG Region VIII, brought preventive healthcare closer to students across Eastern Visayas.

By promoting regular deworming, we are helping children stay healthy, improve school attendance, and reach their full potential—one school, one child, and one community at a time.

Together, we're building healthier learners and brighter futures.

PROJECT BULIG

On February 17, 2025, a fire broke out in Brgy. 39 Calvary Hill, Tacloban City, displacing many families and student renters. The community needed urgent support—and you responded.

Last February 21, the Rotaract Club of Tacloban, spearheaded by our President-Elect Matthew Jolo Palacio, conducted a relief operation to bring aid directly to the affected area. Through your generosity, we were able to assist 130 families by providing water jugs, food packs, hygiene kits, clothes, and slippers.

This would not have been possible without the strong support of our partners: Volunteer for the Visayans (VFV), Virginia Foods Inc., Rotary Club of Tacloban, Bombo Radyo, and Sangguniang Kabataan of Brgy. Luntad.

In times of crisis, unity and compassion shine the brightest. The Rotaract Club of Tacloban thanks everyone who stood with us in bringing relief, comfort, and hope to our fellow Taclobanons. Together, we make service matter.

TYPE KITA: Valentine's Blood Donation Drive

Love is best expressed through the gift of life. Held on February 15 at Metro Mall Tacloban, TYPE KITA: Valentine's Blood Donation Drive brought together volunteer blood donors in support of a safer and more sufficient blood supply for patients in need.

Spearheaded by the Rotaract Club of Tacloban in partnership with the Eastern Visayas Medical Center Blood Bank, Tacloban City Hospital, and Bombo Radyo Tacloban, the initiative supports the goals of Republic Act No. 7719 (National Blood Services Act) and forms part of the Memorandum of Agreement between the Rotaract Club of Tacloban and Eastern Visayas Medical Center.

Every donation is a gift of hope, proving that the greatest act of love is giving someone a second chance at life.

PULSE CHECK: Compression only cpr training

Every second counts in a cardiac emergency. Through PULSE CHECK, the Rotaract Club of Tacloban equips individuals with the knowledge and confidence to respond when every moment matters.

Conducted in partnership with the Tacloban Rescue Unit (TACRU) and supported by our co-hosts, this hands-on training brought together students, professionals, and community members to learn the life-saving technique of Compression-Only CPR. By empowering ordinary citizens to act quickly during emergencies, we help build safer, more prepared, and more resilient communities.

Saving a life begins with the courage to take action.

Autism Awareness Month

Together with the Rotary Club of Tacloban and J.E.S.U.S. Kids Therapy Center, the Rotaract Club of Tacloban proudly kicked off Autism Awareness Month by celebrating inclusion, acceptance, and the unique abilities of every child.

Through meaningful interactions and shared experiences, we continue to build a community where every child is valued, supported, and empowered to thrive.

Different, not less. Together, we celebrate every ability.

Soaprise

The Rotaract Club of Tacloban launched "SOAPRise," a sustainable livelihood initiative aimed at empowering the Mamanwa Tribe in Basey, Samar. Through this project, soap-making business packages were distributed to 30 families, equipping them with the tools and knowledge to start a soap-making enterprise. This initiative provides an avenue for the tribe to generate income, improve hygiene practices, and uplift their standard of living.

Aligned with Rotary International's Areas of Focus, "SOAPRise" promotes Economic and Community Development by enabling a sustainable livelihood for marginalized communities and Disease Prevention and Treatment by encouraging better hygiene through access to soap. By addressing these crucial areas, the project helps the Mamanwa Tribe achieve self-sufficiency and thrive amidst socio-economic challenges.

The Rotaract Club of Tacloban remains steadfast in its mission to extend its reach to underserved communities, creating meaningful and lasting impacts through innovative and inclusive projects. By fostering partnerships and prioritizing community engagement, the club continues to inspire hope and build resilient communities in the region.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

The Rotaract Club of Tacloban proudly participated in the District Breast Cancer Awareness Month Symposium, reaffirming our commitment to promoting health awareness and preventive care.

Through education and advocacy, we continue to empower communities with the knowledge that early detection saves lives, inspiring hope, encouraging regular screenings, and supporting those affected by breast cancer.

Together, we raise awareness, inspire action, and stand stronger in the fight against breast cancer.

Mangrove Tree Planting

Rotaract Club of Tacloban takes part in the District Mangrove Planting at San Juan by the Bay, Sta. Rita, Samar, showing how environmental initiatives can transform communities. By restoring mangroves, we not only protect our coastlines from erosion and storms, but also create habitats for marine life, support local livelihoods, and contribute to climate resilience. Through these actions, we help build sustainable, thriving communities, aligned with Rotary's commitment to saving the environment for future generations.

Payong Kapatid

In celebration of Rule of Law Month, the Rotaract Club of Tacloban launched the first Payong Kapatid, bringing free legal services and legal education closer to the community. Through free consultations, notarial assistance, affidavit drafting, and a cybercrime awareness seminar, the initiative empowered residents with the knowledge and resources to protect their rights and make informed legal decisions.

Made possible through the collaboration of the IBP Leyte Chapter, Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit 8, Rotary Club of Tacloban, partner Rotaract clubs, and local stakeholders, Payong Kapatid reflects our commitment to building informed, empowered, and more resilient communities—where justice is accessible to all.

New rotary year outreach

To welcome the new Rotary year with a spirit of service, the Rotaract Club of Tacloban joined fellow Rotary and Rotaract Clubs in bringing smiles to the students of Dr. A.P. Bañez Memorial Elementary School.

Through interactive games, school supplies, shared meals, and meaningful fellowship, the outreach celebrated the joy of giving while supporting young learners as they begin another school year. Spearheaded by District Governor Caroline Andrade, the activity reflects Rotary's commitment to investing in children, strengthening communities, and inspiring hope through service.
